A 37-year-old Gauteng province woman, South Africa has broken the Guinness World Record for multiple births at the same time.

Gosiame Thamara Sithole, hailing from Tembisa township, gave birth to decuplets (10 babies); six boys and 4 girls through the Caesarean section.

The record was previously held by 25-year-old Malian woman Halima Cissy who gave birth to nonuplets (9 babies) in Morocco on May 4, 2021.

Gosiame gave birth to her decuplets just 29 weeks into her pregnancy.

Initial scans only showed six babies however, doctors discovered she was actually carrying ten babies upon conducting further scans.

The scan report showed that two of the babies were in the wrong tube and doctors remedied the situation.

“Initially there were six children. Only to find that the other two were in the wrong tube. My legs were painful. The doctors did further scans, and they found the children were in the wrong tube. That was sorted and I have been okay since then. I can’t wait for my children,” said the woman.

This development shocked Goisame who said the pregnancy was tough in the initial stages.

Goisame already has a set of 6-year-old twins.

Gosiame’s husband Tebogo Tsotetsi, said he was also overwhelmed by shock when he was told about the pregnancy.
