Passengers using the Ngong-Nairobi route were stranded for hours on Wednesday morning after commuter matatu operators went on strike over a new entrant into the route.

The matatu operators downed their tools and parked all their matatus at the Ngong main terminus to oppose the introduction of the Super Metro buses to the Ngong-Nairobi route.

The operators are of the opinion that the better organised matatus in the Super Metro Sacco, which joined the route this week, should not be allowed to operate on the busy route.

They have vowed to remain on strike and block all matatus on the route from operating until the matter is resolved also faulting Super Metro for hiring crew from outside Ngong Town area.

However, residents are faulting the Ngong matatu operators accusing them of opposing the new commuter service entrant out of jealousy as the Super Metro is more organised, cleaner and treat passengers with courtesy.
