Eight people were left dead and two others seriously wounded after a commuter matatu collided head-on with a fuel tanker at Ngengu area along the Homa Bay-Kendu Bay road.

According to Homa Bay Police Commander Samson Ole Kinne, the Monday evening road accident between the PSV matatu and the trailer killed the eight passengers on the spot.

A boy said to be a Standard 7 pupil at a school located in Rangwe Constituency, Homa Bay County who is reported to have been travelling back to school, is among the passengers confirmed dead.

The police boss told reporters the two injured passengers were taken to Homa Bay County Referral Hospital for immediate medical attention.

At the same time, the bodies of those who died in the tragic road have been transferred to the Homa Bay County Referral Hospital’s mortuary.

Kinne added that police have launched an investigation to establish the cause of the accident.
