Presidential hopeful Reuben Kigame has said the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) chairperson Wafula Chebukati was not fit to hold the position.

Kigame said that on Wednesday during a presser when he accused Chebukati of discriminating against him and some other candidates in the presidential race.

He said seeing Chebukati, a lawyer of his renown, abusing the law is akin to a problem with his personality.

"When I see Wafula Chebukati who is a lawyer, in fact, a lawyer at the level of a supreme court judge, just literally abusing the law, I say it is not just State capture, it is really a problem of personality," Kigame said.

Kigame said he had a grievous problem with the electoral body’s chair personality, which in his opinion was hostile, impersonal and snobbish.

"I have a very serious problem with Chebukati's personality; he is impersonal, unfriendly, hostile, a snob...everything except a returning officer," he said.

The presidential hopeful decried Chebukati’s move to exclude him from the last list of qualified candidates to run for presidency even after leaving him out of the nomination process.

"When he published the list of those who were not qualified, he did not have my name in there. That is how disdain he is as a person," Kigame said.

He further expressed his dissatisfaction with Chebukati’s occupation of the position of IEBC chairperson.

"For a chair of IEBC, Wafula Chebukati is the wrong person," Kigame said.

"Even after leaving me out of the nomination process, he did not include me among the four that were nominated as candidates."

Kigame was dropped out of the presidential race for lack of requisite items. However, he maintains he presented all the required documents before the IEBC but was still locked out of the presidential race.

Apart from holding the opinion that IEBC chair Wafula Chebukati is not fit to hold that position, Kigame also feels the election should be postponed.
