The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has turned away the Root Party presidential candidate George Wajackojah for failure to submit the required number of signatures from his supporters.

Wajackoyah went to the Bomas Kenya on Monday morning where IEBC officials have pitched camp as they clear aspirants to vie for the August election.

Wajackoyah was among political aspirants who were scheduled to meet the IEBC chairperson Wafula Chebukati on Monday.

IEBC declined to register Wajackoyah in the list of cleared presidential candidates because of an inadequate list of supporters.

According to the commission, the Roots party compiled signatures from only 17 counties.

"You have complied with all documentation except the supporters' list. Only 17 counties are compliant. The others have shortfalls. You need a minimum of seven to meet the requirements. I have to reject your application today and give you an opportunity on June 2 at 3 pm to comply," Chebukati said.

The commission gave Wajackoyah a Thursday deadline to submit the documents from the remaining 7 counties for consideration.

IEBC requires the presidential aspirants to secure at least 2,000 signatures from at least 24 counties across Kenya to qualify.
