Seventeen suspects who were arrested in connection to the Friday attack against former Prime Minister Raila Odinga were arraigned in an Eldoret Court on Monday.

The 17 youth stand accused of launching an attack on the Azimio la Umoja presidential candidate’s chopper and cars in Kabenes, Uasin Gishu County during the funeral of Mzee Jackson Kibor.

Following the incident, Raila’s chopper and cars were destroyed by the stones the rowdy group of youth pelted at the leader and his entourage.

The suspects face several charges including the destruction of property, incitement to violence, disturbance of peace and attempted murder.

The prosecution made an application to the court seeking to have the 17 suspects held in custody for a fortnight to allow the police to complete their investigations.

Preliminary investigations by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) suggested the youth were incited.

Three individuals, including Kapseret Member of Parliament Oscar Sudi, Soy Member of Parliament Caleb Kositany and Uasin Gishu Speaker David Kiplagat were summoned to the regional DCI office in Nakuru to record their statements and be interrogated.


They reported to the DCI's office on Sunday and got questioned in connection to the incident.

Suna East Member of Parliament Junet Mohamed has also been summoned to visit the DCI headquarters in Nairobi on Tuesday.

Junet was part of Raila’s entourage to Kabenes and was the first person to share information about the attack.
