Police have arrested a motor vehicle scrap metal dealer in Kariobangi’s Light Industries area in Nairobi.

The suspect, Moses Ndegwa was arrested following a police raid at his scrap metal yard on Wednesday morning.

Police found dozens of motor vehicle parts already dismantled into pieces from various vehicles.

A lorry full of the dismantled motor vehicle parts was recovered in the morning raid

The DCI detectives were acting on an anonymous tip-off through the ‘Fichua kwa DCI’ toll-free hotline that three vehicles had been hastily driven into Ndegwa’s scrapyard.

The vehicles; a Pajero, a Toyota DX 102 and a Toyota 110 were quickly dismantled into pieces by a group of skilled mechanics who were on standby, waiting for their arrival.

The overnight stripping and dismantling operation ended by 4:00 am and the remains of the former vehicles were all loaded into a lorry ready for the scrap metal market, leaving no trace.

Detectives from Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau responded to the call just in time to find the lorry loaded with scrap metal leaving the yard that doubles as a welding shop during the day.

It is believed the lorry was headed to make a delivery somewhere along Mombasa road but was diverted to Buruburu Police Station where its contents were offloaded.

The suspect was put in police custody and interrogated as he gave more information on his trade and accomplices.

Police promise more action and arrests will be witnessed as they continue with investigations on the matter.
