Anglican Church of Kenya Bishop Joel Waweru has been charged with sexually harassing a woman.

Waweru was charged at Kibera Law Courts where he appeared before Senior Principal Magistrate Derrick Kuto.

The Bishop was charged with trying to forcefully touch and kiss a woman without her permission.

He was also charged with another count of indecently touching the breasts of a woman on July 13, 2021.

Waweru’s charge sheet shows the offences were committed on different days in Langata, Nairobi County.

Bishop pleaded innocence in the sexual assault-related charges and pleaded for lenient bond terms.

According to the woman, the bishop had confessed his feelings for her, disregarding the fact that she was married.

Being married did not deter the bishop who kept making advances at her, which forced the woman to report the matter to the police.

Kuto released Waweru on a Sh50,000 cash bail and set the matter for hearing in a fortnight’s time.

“He will be released on a ksh50,000 cash bail and the matter will be brought here after a fortnight,” Kuto said.
