Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago and Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi engaged in a public spat over who should contest for the county's senatorial seat in the 2022 general election.

Sudi, who was campaigning for DP William Ruto in the County, asked Mandago to step down from the senate race and instead drum up support for Ruto or vie for a bigger national position.

According to the controversial MP, Mandago has served as the governor and should seek other elective posts and leave the senate seat to younger politicians eyeing it in 2022.

“When you are an assistant chief, you move up to Chief, then D.O. DC… moving upwards, not the other way round,” Sudi said.

Mandago, in a quick rejoinder, told off Sudi saying no one from the region should lecture him on which seat he should vie for.

The County boss said the Kapseret MP should focus on his parliamentary seat and leave the residents of Uasin Gishu County to make their choice on who best suits the post next year.

''The decision of who is going to be elected here is made by the people, not a person, let him use his energy on Kapseret seat not here'', Mandago said.

He warned Sudi and those purportedly behind his public utterances that he will "teach them a lesson" like he did in the last election.

Ruto's camp had opposed Mandago in the run up to the 2017 poll but the politician managed to rally his supporters and clinched Jubilee Party nomination and went ahead to win the seat.
