A form two student at Chavakali Boys High School in Vihiga county spent a night at the streets of Kakamega town after being sent home from school to collect fees.

The boy's plight came to light following a video that went viral across social media platforms.

According to the boy named Linus Kiprop, he was sent home for fees on Wednesday and walked 35 kilometres from his school to Kakamega because he lacked fare.

By the time he was reaching Kakamega town, it was already dusk and he had no other option but to find a place to rest before dawn comes and proceed with his journey.

The student explained that upon reaching Kakamega town; he became concerned about his safety and sought help from a guard on night duty who offered him the much-needed help.

“I was sent home to collect school fees and I didn’t have fare so I had to walk. I came while making stops in different places on the road and kept resuming my journey. When I arrived in Kakamega town, it was late. I met a security guard here and asked him if I could camp with him for the night and resume my trip later,” he said.

The student also disclosed that he had not eaten anything since morning, but he was grateful and thankful to the security guard who bought him some mandazis.

The student further revealed that he sat for his Kenya Primary Education Certificate exams in 2019 and scored 384 marks, which secured him admission to Chavakali Boys High School.

He further appealed to Kenyan well-wishers to help him clear the fee balance, noting that his parents are financially unstable.

“I haven’t even eaten since I left school in the morning, the guard bought me tea and mandazi. I am begging anyone who can help me pay my fees. I am helpless and my family cannot afford the costs; my father and mother are unemployed,” Kiprop said.
