Kenyan actress Catherine Kariuki, who starred in the Siri drama series, is dead.
Catherine died on Monday after making frantic efforts across Nairobi County last week looking for a health facility with bed space and oxygen.
She had posted on social media that she was unwell but was unable to access healthcare due to hospitals in the city county being overrun by the surging cases of Covid-19.
The cancer survivor, who was also known for her philanthropic and community work, had initially suspected she had contracted Coronavirus but a test she did tested negative.
Catherine later revealed on her Facebook page that she finally managed to secure a bed in a health facility somewhere in Eastlands, where she fought and breathed her last.

“We lost a special woman. Catherine Kariuki. Catherine offered her love and skills freely at TEARS Kenya events. She shared her light easily. She plugged in so well to help raise hope for grieving families. We celebrated her in life and now in death we remember all that she was to many people. We celebrate that,” the Kenya Chapter of The TEARS Foundation, where she volunteered, posted on Facebook.
It added, “We celebrate her heart of service for mankind. This photo, was her first event she attended, TEA & CONNECT 2019 and she desired to be part of us (those offering hope) going forward. She wanted to be there for others in their grief. We cherish each moment we had with her.”
