Kenya’s Homeland Itoya Events made history as the first non-European events company to co-organise the 2024 Bürgerfest in Berlin, Germany.

The two-day festival, graced by President William Ruto of Kenya and President Frank-Walter Steiner of Germany, celebrated the vibrant exchange of cultural traditions and international collaboration.

Held at Schloss Bellevue, the official residence of the German President, the Bürgerfest 2024 brought together a diverse audience eager to experience the rich traditions of Germany and Kenya.

For the first time, Kenya was invited as a guest nation, offering attendees a unique glimpse into its cultural heritage.

Traditional German folk dances were juxtaposed with captivating Kenyan tribal performances, creating a lively atmosphere that embodied unity through diversity.

The festival also presented a blend of culinary experiences from both nations. Festival-goers savoured German staples like bratwurst alongside Kenyan delicacies, including nyama choma and the renowned Tusker Lager beer.

The fusion of flavours provided a perfect complement to the performances, reflecting the deepening cultural ties between the two nations.

Beyond the performances and cuisine, the festival offered interactive workshops, craft sessions, and educational talks.

Visitors of all ages were treated to hands-on experiences that enhanced their understanding of both cultures.

The festival also featured live music and theatrical performances, with acts such as Kenya’s DJ Space, Bomas of Kenya cultural dancers, and Gogosimo Band captivating the audience.

Local organisations in Germany participated, further reinforcing the sense of community and fostering cross-cultural understanding.

Kenya’s Homeland Itoya Events played a pivotal role in the event’s organisation, collaborating with German companies to manage the festival's logistics.

Edwine P. Anayo, Managing Director of Homeland Itoya Events, expressed his pride in the company’s involvement

“Curating this groundbreaking cultural exchange between Kenya and Germany has been an immense honour," Anayo said.

"Our participation here underscores the immense potential of Kenya’s events industry."

Anayo noted that they had truly come of age, demonstrating their ability to compete on an equal footing with international events service providers.

The company was instrumental in setting up the concert venues, audio-visual, lighting, and staging elements that were crucial to the festival’s success.

They also collaborated in organising the workshops and craft sessions within the park at Schloss Bellevue.

By co-organising this prestigious event, Homeland Itoya Events highlighted Kenya’s growing expertise in the global events industry while celebrating the beauty of cultural diplomacy between Germany and Kenya.
