The Communication Authority of Kenya (CA) has slapped Homeboyz Radio with a Sh1 million penalty and imposed a 6-month suspension on The Lift-Off Show following the offensive remarks by three presenters, who have since been sacked.
Homeboyz Radio on Sunday morning announced that it had terminated the contracts of pressnters Shaffie Weru, DJ Joe Mfalme and Neville Muasya following their utterances said to amount to shaming the victim of a gender based violence incident.
In a press statement, CA acting Director-General Mercy Wanjau said its probe had revealed that derogatory remarks were made against women during the show hence violating provisions of the law and the Programming Code on requirements for broadcasters to mind programming during the watershed period.
The Authority has also assured the public that it shall monitor programmes aired by all its licensees to ensure they conform to the provisions of the ICT sector regulations under the Kenya Information and Communication Act (KICA).
