Talented award-winning journalist Waihiga Mwaura on Tuesday announced his regination from Citizen TV, which is operated under the Royal Media Services (RMS) stable.

In a post on his social media pages, Waihiga said he was moving to the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) after launching and honing his media career at SK Macharia’s Citizen TV.

“After 14 amazing years at Royal Media Services (Citizen TV), my time here has come to an end,” said Waihiga.

The decorated journalist, who is married to gospel musician Joyce Omondi, revealed that he would be stationed at the BBC Africa’s Focus on Africa offices operating from Nairobi.

“My next stop is @BBCNews @BBCAfrica specifically Focus on Africa,” he added.

Born on June 6, 1984, the Kenyan journalist who won the BBC World News Komla Dumor Award in 2018 said he will host his final Newsnight Show on Citizen Tv on Tuesday night.

“I'll share more details soon, but in the meantime, see you on my last episode of #Newsnight at 9pm on @citizentvkenya,” he concluded the post.



Waihiga went to Rusinga School for his high school before proceeding to Africa Nazarene University where graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science.

He first worked as a bank teller before he quit to try his hand in the media, where he felt he was better suited, and launched his media career by hosting Zinduka on Citizen TV in 2009.

He was later to transition to a sports reporter and anchor then to hosting the Power Breakfast show before ending up on the politics and current affairs desk all on Citizen TV.
