Kenya’s award-winning boy band Sauti Sol angered its fans after they cancelled their attendance of the Sol Saturday concert slated for Mass House on Saturday.

Sauti Sol took to Twitter on Saturday and announced that they would not perform at the event that was only hours away citing Covid-19 pandemic concerns during the event.

“we regret to inform you that we will not be performing at today’s scheduled ‘Sol Saturday’ event. Although we deeply desire to give you a marvelous show, we can not in good conscience give you assure your health and safety which is out highest priority,” Sauti Sol said on Twitter.

“we were recently made aware that the event size does not comply with Kenyan Covid-19 protocols and regulations,” they added.

The band consisting of Bien-Aime Barasa, Willis Chimano, Savara Mudigi, Polycarp Otieno has however promised to refund the cash they had been paid in full by the event organisers.

However, their last-minute cancellation of their appearance, being the main acts, has left a bitter taste in the mouths of their loyal fans who had bought tickets for the event.

Some questioned why Sol waited for the last minute to cancel their appearance yet Covid-19 protocols have been in place for weeks and were considered during planning and even during their contract signing.

Others raised concern on how vendors who had already bought products and made financial commitments in readiness for the concert will get their money back as ticket buyers are reimbursed.

Mass House, one of the event organisers, apologised to fans who had already bought tickets.
