Various Kenyan musicians have recently taken to their respective social media pages slamming comedian Eric Omondi following the comedian’s remark bashing musicians during an interview with popular presenter Felix Odiwuor alias Jalang’o.

In the interview, Eric adamantly stated that the Kenyan music industry has died with Kenyan musicians, proving no creativeness in their projects.

Eric further stated that the artistes get paid poorly and get mistreated whenever an international artist visits the country.

He reiterated his sentiments with a lengthy message on his Instagram page on Saturday.

“HE KENYAN ENTERTAINMENT SCENE IS DEAD!!! We have lost our Glory. We have become a Cemetry!!! It is utter DISGRACE that our musicians have become mere Curtain raisers for international acts. We have become clowns in our own land. Every weekend there is a group of 3 or 4 foreign artists in this City Nairobi. GENGETONE is DEAD and BURIED. Today I see @joemuchiri1 heading down to Nanyuki for the monthly AMAPIANO TOUR. Guys we have a F#CKING MONTHLY SOUTH AFRICAN THEMED MUSIC FESTIVAL in our Country!!! We have lost OUR GLORY!!! In Less than two weeks we had Etana, Omahley and Konshens is on his way. Where are the Kenyan CONCERTS???? We have become REDUNDANT, PREDICTABLE and BORING. We NEED to PUT in the WORK, to reclaim our GLORY we have to INVEST in our ART!!! GOD knows I am PERSONALLY TRYING my level Best. The CURFEW has been LIFTED, it’s time to DUST ourselves and get to WORK. We can do it, we have all it takes to RECLAIM this lost Glory. The comedian’s claims were however not taken lightly by legendary musician Jua Cali who confidently shared a video only telling off comedians who are interfering with the issues related to music yet they haven’t mended their own issues in the entertainment sector.

Jua Cali asked comedians to get creative too and entertain their audience without involving musician and their problems. 

‘’I hate talking but I need to say this. We need to work and consider respect for others. Our music industry has come a very long way. It is normal, we have our ups and downs. It is therefore very important to help each other and not bash or pull each other down. It is even worse when people who do that come from a very different industry, say comedy,” he said. 

The musician also reminded comedians that they too are able to fight them in a war of words and destroy their careers and industry, but in the end that is not the agenda and would always remain respectful.

‘’I am a big fan of stand up comedy but we as artistes have never bashed anyone. If you are a comedian, just hit the stage, throw jokes and do your thing but do not trash Kenyan musicians. We can not be bashing each other, maintain your lane, if you are a comedian, stick to comedy and leave artists alone,” Jua Cali insisted. “The fact that international artistes come to perform in Kenya does not mean our industry is dead. We are a global village right now. Kenyan artists are working hard, guys are doing shows,’’ Jua Cali said.
