The curtain rises on a highly anticipated showdown in Kenyan women’s football as Kibera Soccer Women’s FC take on Vihiga Queens FC in the FKF Women’s Cup Final at Nakuru’s Afraha Stadium, kicking off at 2:00 pm on Saturday.
This decisive clash not only pits two of the nation’s most competitive clubs against each other, but also signals a broader commitment to uplifting the women’s game, both by Football Kenya Federation (FKF) and corporate sponsor betPawa Kenya.
Originally slated for June 14, the match was deferred to allow the Harambee Starlets to compete in the CECAFA Senior Women’s Championship, which concluded on Sunday in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. With continental duty now behind them, attention has returned home to crown a new cup winner.
Kibera Soccer Women earned their place in the final after eliminating the FKF Women’s Premier League champions Kenya Police Bullets in a confident 2-0 victory in the semis.
Their charge was also responsible for ejecting three-time champions Ulinzi Starlets from the competition, following a dramatic 4-3 penalty shootout in the quarterfinals.

Vihiga Queens, no strangers to silverware, will be chasing yet another accolade.
The four-time Women’s Premier League titleholders secured their spot in the final by edging out Bungoma Queens 2-1 in a tense semi-final showdown.
They will look to their in-form striker, former Plateau Queens forward Swaumu Masungo, to spearhead the attack.
During a training session held at Woodley grounds, Kibera head coach David Vijago acknowledged the enormity of the task ahead.
“Vihiga Queens is a very tough team. The last time we faced them, we won narrowly through a penalty shootout after a 1-1 draw," Vijago said.
"This is a big game, and we are not leaving anything to chance, we are determined to win."
The coach affirmed that the team is mentally and physically prepared for the game as the players are highly motivated to win the match which would mean a lot to the team.
Corporate backers have not stood aside.
Cynthia Onyango of betPawa Kenya praised the players' commitment and reiterated their firm support for women’s football.
“We are proud to support the growth of women’s football in Kenya. This final is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the players, coaches, and stakeholders. betPawa remains committed to empowering sports and creating opportunities for women in football,” she remarked.
The federation’s Women’s Representative, Kerubo Momanyi, encouraged fans to show up in support of the final.
“This final is a celebration of the strides we’ve made in women’s football. We encourage fans to come out in large numbers to support these incredible athletes as they inspire the next generation,” she said.
This year’s edition has drawn participation from 32 clubs across the country.
With betPawa as the tournament’s official sponsor, players and technical teams have benefited from Sh4.3 million disbursed through the Locker Room Bonus (LRB) initiative.
The programme is designed to reward effort on the pitch while fostering long-term investment in women’s football development.
