Safaricom on Wednesday unveiled myCounty App, a platform empowering all 47 counties to digitise all the services they offer in one place making it easier for citizens to access them.
The app includes payments for county services, revenue management systems, citizen reporting and engagement tool and solutions on agriculture, health, utility bills and SME programs.
The Wednesday launch makes Makueni the first county to adopt myCounty with the remaining 46 county governments set to be added to the platforms in coming months.
Residents will be able to access myCounty via a USSD code, Android and iPhone App for all counties, and a mini-app on the M-Pesa Super App offering county services and payments.
These will include parking fees, single business permit fees, market cess, land rates, property rates with Makueni set to launch a citizen engagement and online radio channels as part of its services.

“More than its convenience and accessibility, this app is a tool for breaking through barriers, challenging the status quo and re-imagining what is possible,” said Makueni Governor Mutula Kilonzo Junior.
He added, “It is a tool for leadership, for inspiring our citizens to be bold and visionary in their thinking and to embrace the power of change to create a better county for themselves and generations to come.”
The app service seeks to make it easier for members of the public to access and make payments for county services without having to visit county offices for manual payments.
“myCounty provides individuals and organisations with a single, convenient point where they can access, manage, and pay for all county services,” said Safaricom CEO Peter Ndegwa.
He added: “The service will be available for all 47 counties as a smartphone app, web portal and short code and will integrate both current and upcoming services irrespective of the County’s provider of choice, and in addition, provide a management portal.”
myCounty App will let users pick their county of residence and be linked to that county’s services but users can access services from other counties to make payments due to them.
It will also provide a “Sema Na Governor” feature for public engagement and also key county and emergency services including requests for fire engines, police and ambulance.
The counties will also reap from revenue management, cash and bank reconciliation, credit control and debt management, and business intelligence systems services among other services.
Safaricom will also host the service as part of the Safaricom Cloud, provide Big Data and Analytics Solutions, and, for app users, digital receipts and electronic notifications.
