National carrier Kenya Airways (KQ) on Wednesday announced the introduction of a flight between Accra, Ghana and Dakar, Senegal, which takes effect on December 11, 2022.

This makes KQ the only airline to offer this connection and will tap into the travel demand from corporate travelers, traders and leisure travelers moving between Ghana and Senegal.

KQ says it will fly a B737-800 aircraft two times a week from Nairobi to Accra to Dakar before returning to Nairobi through Accra.

This connection will offer customers in the KQ network more flight options in West Africa, and also in and out of East Africa and connections via Nairobi to Middle East, India, China, Europe and USA.

The carrier says the route will increase Dakar flight options from current two to four weekly flights and Accra from daily flights to nine times a week with a night flight out of Nairobi to Accra.

"The new connection will offer our guests more travel and connectivity options within West Africa. Strategically, the bigger picture is to support the Single African Air Transport Market and the African Continental Free Trade Area which are key pillars for Africa’s growth, by growing and deepening our network connections within the continent,” said Kenya Airways Chief Commercial and Customer Officer Julius Thairu.
