The Safaricom Chapa Dimba All-Stars team, comprising 25 outstanding young footballers, will depart Nairobi this Saturday for a week-long training camp in Huesca, Spain.

The group of 13 boys and 12 girls, drawn from Season Four of the national tournament, are set to train, compete, and learn at one of Europe’s most respected football academies.

The Spain-bound players are part of a wider pool of 32 selected for the All-Star squad.

Seven of their teammates will not travel, having already secured opportunities with various national and international clubs.

According to Safaricom, these achievements highlight the tournament’s role in shaping professional pathways for Kenyan youth.

Safaricom’s Chief Executive Officer, Dr Peter Ndegwa, explained how the tournament is not only sending players abroad but also creating professional opportunities at home and primarily about opening doors for young people..

“Chapa Dimba has always been about opening doors of opportunity for Kenyan youth, and today, we are proud to see that vision come alive in an even bigger way," Ndegwa stated.

He further stressed that the opportunities are not limited to Spain but extend to club-level breakthroughs.

“Not only are these young players travelling to Spain to sharpen their skills, but many of their teammates have also earned call-ups to top national and international clubs,” he said.

Ndegwa also celebrated the individual success stories already emerging from the tournament.

“To see players like Austin Odongo, Emily Moranga, Khamis Nyale break into professional clubs, while others take this next big step in Spain, fills us with immense pride. This is the heartbeat of Safaricom Chapa Dimba: empowering our youth, transforming their lives, and showcasing Kenyan football talent to the world,” he said.

While in Spain, the team will engage in several high-level football activities.

They are scheduled to train at the Base Aragonesa de Fútbol, home of S.D. Huesca’s modern sports city, and play friendly matches against Huesca’s youth academy.

They will also take part in expert-led masterclasses, attend a Spanish Segunda Division match between SD Huesca and Málaga CF, and enjoy cultural tours of the region.

Among the players, Plateau Queens’ Swaumu Masungo expressed her excitement, describing the trip as a dream come true.

“Visiting Spain and experiencing world-class football has always been a dream, and now it is becoming a reality. I am determined to make the most of this opportunity, learn as much as possible, and use the lessons to grow my football career,” she said.

The team will be under the leadership of captains Stanley Waswa of Ndura Sports Academy and Manda Sunira Were of Highland Royals Moi Girls.

Coaches Chrispine Odindo of Plateau Queens and Evans Oketch of Obunga FC will accompany them, alongside officials from the Football Kenya Federation.

Launched in 2017, Safaricom Chapa Dimba is a grassroots football initiative run in partnership with the Football Kenya Federation.

It gives boys and girls aged between 16 and 20 a platform to showcase their abilities while connecting them with scouts and professional clubs.

This year’s All-Star team, however, represents more than just raw talent. It symbolises the bridge between grassroots football in Kenya and the opportunities that await on international pitches.
