The African Centre for Technology Studies (ACTS Consortium), which is led by Prof Tom Peter Migun Ogada, has been picked as the winner of a prestigious competition that will see it establish a Green Digital Innovation Hub in Kenya.
GIZ Digital Transformation Centre (DTC) Kenya says the achievement by ACTS Consortium is a demonstration of their outstanding capabilities and dedication to pushing for sustainable innovation.
The Green Digital Innovation Hub seeks to back Kenya's digital transformation endeavors and promote sustainable development, circular economy, environmental protection and climate change mitigation.
DTC says ACTS Consortium’s broad expertise and visionary approach stood out among those who took part in the competition, hence demonstrating their pledge to developing the green digital landscape.
ACTS Consortium will work closely with the GIZ-DTC-SKIIVE Project Team in their transformative journey as part of the award, which will include a study trip to Europe to collect vital insights and inspiration.

Consequently, they will develop a roadmap that will lead up to the official unveiling of the Green Digital Innovation Hub in Kenya in December 2023.
The ACTS Consortium-GIZ-DTC-SKIIVE Project Team partnership will see them co-create an all-inclusive business plan that will outline the strategic framework for the Green Digital Innovation Hub in Kenya.
GIZ-DTC-SKIIVE Project Team lauded the other contenders for their expertise and innovation and expressed willingness to pursue collaboration opportunities through the Green Digital Innovation Hub.
“As a consortium, we are extremely delighted to have won the call for proposals to establish the Green Digital Innovation Hub. The vision of the Hub resonates and aligns very well with the aspirations of the individual member organizations of the consortium,” said ACTS Executive Director Prof Tom Peter Migun Ogada.
He added: “We are therefore committed to using our expertise and resources to deliver effectively on the mandate of the Hub and to ensure that the Hub will significantly contribute to the growth of the innovation ecosystem in Kenya.”
The ACTS Consortium will further supervise the integration of a non-profit body to solidify the pledge for a purpose-driven approach and to promote collaboration within the Green Digital Innovation Hub.
The collaboration will also see the new partners establish a meticulous implementation plan that will ensure the seamless execution of initiatives and exploiting the potential for transformative outcomes.
“Their selection exemplifies their remarkable accomplishments and perfectly aligns with our shared vision of building a sustainable and connected world,” said GIZ-DTC-SKIIVE Project Team Digital Innovation Hub Expert Sylvia Mukasa.
She added, “We had some quality contenders with whom we would still want to collaborate with the gDIH as the hub comes to life."
Through the partnership, GIZ-DTC-SKIIVE Project Team and ACTS Consortium aims to create and growth the hub and drive meaningful change, environmental consciousness, and foster future innovations.
