Barcelona Ladies SC and Lysa FC from Laikipia County are the Safaricom Chapa Dimba fourth edition Central region champions in the finals held at Wang’uru Stadium, Kirinyaga County.

Two-time regional winner and defending champions, Barcelona Ladies, defended their title for the third consecutive year after mercilessly crushing St Joseph from Murang’a 5-0.

Calta Nasambu, who emerged top scorer with four goals in two matches, opened the scores for Barcelona in the 23rd minute after sneaking a dribble past the St Joseph's defense.

Loise Matendechere followed rapidly with another goal in the 34th minute, with Milca Wambui extending Barcelona Ladies' lead to 3-0 with a clinical finish right before half time.

Nasambu found the back of the net again in the 73rd minute with Naomi Masinde sealing St Joseph’s fate with the fifth goal from a free-kick sending her team to the national finals.

“It is not easy to play in such a competitive tournament like Chapa Dimba and retain the title three times consecutively. It requires dedication and determination, and I am glad my players have displayed all of that, along with a hunger for victory,” said Barcelona Ladies SC Head coach Emman Wafula Gullet.

He added: “After today’s game, we will immediately embark on our training because we only have three weeks to prepare for the national finals, which are set for mid-next month in Kisumu. Despite a few injuries, the rest of the squad is in good form, and we hope that as we head to the national finals, we will try our best and bring the national trophy to Laikipia.”

In the Boys' finals, Lysa FC from Laikipia County staged a mighty comeback from 1-0 behind to kick out M-Pesa Foundation Academy from Kiambu 3-2 in an exhilarating clash to lock their maiden regional title in the Safaricom Chapa Dimba tournament.

Wyclif Odira put M-Pesa Foundation Academy in the lead in the 16th minute before Lysa FC’s John Lokalia equalized in the 20th minute resulting in a 1-1 draw during halftime.

Lokalia shook the back of the net again in the 47th minute followed by a superb goal from his counterpart Peter Kamau three minutes later guaranteeing their sail to victory.

Victor Kiptoo scored a second goal for M-Pesa Foundation in the 70th minute but this did little to shake Lysa FC after his colleague Emmanuel Mangera's penalty was neutralised.

Barcelona Ladies SC and Lysa FC each went home with Sh250,000, and tickets to represent Central region in the Safaricom Chapa Dimba National finals set for April in Kisumu County.

The runners-up in the competitive football tournament, St. Joseph Girls from Murang’a and M-Pesa Foundation Academy from Kiambu, pocketed Sh150,000 each.

The Most Valuable Player (MVP), Best Goalkeeper, and Top Scorer (boys and girls) each received took home Sh30,000.

Central region is the last regional finals of the Safaricom Chapa Dimba fourth edition with all focus now shifting to the lakeside city of Kisumu for the tournament’s national finals.

The Safaricom Chapa Dimba fourth edition in Central region featured 325 football teams from all the five counties in Central Kenya; Kiambu, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Laikipia, and Nyeri.

Barcelona Ladies SC and Lysa FC will now join Ebwali FC and Brenda Girls from Western, Obunga FC and Plateau Queens from Nyanza region, PASC Langa and Wiyeta Girls from Rift Valley, Chuka Uni Scorpions and Syomunyu Sec from Eastern, Bandari Youth and Changamwe Ladies from Coast, Wajir All Stars and Wajir Queens from North Eastern as well as Young Kings and Dagoretti Mixed Girls from Nairobi for the national finals in Kisumu.

Individual Prizes
