The Lewa Safari Marathon, a renowned fixture in Kenya's sporting and conservation calendar, is gearing up for its 25th anniversary edition on June 29, 2024.

As registrations open on March 14th, anticipation is high for an unforgettable celebration of athleticism and environmental stewardship.

This year's marathon promises to attract a diverse field of participants, from elite professionals like Eliud Kipchoge to amateur enthusiasts and walkers.

"To me, a running world is a happy world," remarked Kipchoge. "We are all part of the human family, and we must keep strong and stay fit for our wellbeing. By running together, we can also conserve our environment, empower our communities, take care of our wildlife, and support those at Lewa working for a future for us all."

Amidst the excitement, headline sponsors Safaricom and Huawei have reaffirmed their commitment to the event, with Safaricom CEO Peter Ndegwa announcing a Sh25 million contribution.

"We take pride in our 25-year involvement with the marathon, as it has not only offered sparks of inspiration but also provided solutions to thousands of Kenyans, enabling them to shine and transform their dreams into reality. This year, we are equally excited to extend our support for the event, committing Sh25 million to its success," Ndegwa stated.

Sheng Kaifu, Deputy CEO of Huawei, echoed this sentiment, stating, "Huawei is delighted to have supported the Lewa Safari Marathon for the past 16 years as part of our commitment to supporting the environment and local communities in Kenya."

Against the backdrop of the Lewa Wildlife Conservancy, participants will navigate rocky trails and woodland while connecting with Kenya's stunning natural landscapes.

Reflecting on the event's significance, Mike Watson, CEO of Lewa Wildlife Conservancy, emphasized the importance of collective action in safeguarding our planet's wildlife and habitats.

"As we face unprecedented threats to our planet, it is essential that we take action to protect our wildlife and their habitats," Watson stated.

"The Lewa Safari Marathon is not only an opportunity to challenge yourself and connect with nature, but it is also a way to make a positive impact on the communities and wildlife of northern Kenya and beyond."

Since its inception in 2000, the Lewa Safari Marathon has raised over $8.5 million in support of conservation and community initiatives throughout Kenya.

Over $4 million has been directly invested in the protection of endangered species, wildlife, and their habitats, showcasing the tangible impact of the event on the region's environmental sustainability.

As preparations for the milestone edition gather momentum, anticipation is building for a memorable celebration of resilience, camaraderie, and the enduring spirit of conservation.

With 25 years of impact behind it, the Lewa Safari Marathon is poised to continue its legacy of making a positive difference for Kenya's natural heritage and communities for years to come.
