Safaricom has formally inaugurated the Nyanza regional finals of the Chapa Dimba football tournament with a series of community engagement initiatives designed to uplift the lives of residents in the region.

These events are set to culminate in the highly anticipated regional finals, scheduled to take place on the weekend of September 30th and October 1st, 2023.

The multifaceted community engagement endeavours encompass a free Medical Camp, free Digital and Financial Literacy training, and Safaricom Engineering Community Campus Tours.

These initiatives, organized by Safaricom in collaboration with partners such as Zuri Health and Britam, aim to make a meaningful impact on the local community in the Nyanza region.

Peter Ndegwa, CEO of Safaricom PLC, expressed the company's commitment to community development.

"We are planning to engage with members of the community through a series of activities aimed at transforming the lives of our people across various parts of the Nyanza region as we prepare for the upcoming regional finals of Chapa Dimba at Moi Stadium in Kisumu, next weekend," Ndegwa stated.

"We have partnered with key organizations such as Zuri Health and Britam to provide a free Medical Camp, free Digital and Financial Literacy training, and Safaricom Engineering Community Campus Tours, all with the goal of enhancing the lives of the local community in the region."

The free Medical Camp offers a range of essential healthcare services, including medical check-ups, physician consultations, eye and dental examinations, blood sugar tests, blood pressure measurements, body fat assessments, and Body Mass Index (BMI) screenings.

In collaboration with Britam Insurance Company, Safaricom is providing free Digital and Financial Literacy training specifically tailored for Boda Boda riders, vendors, small business operators, shopkeepers, and other Safaricom customers in the region.

This training aims to promote a culture of saving, enhance credit and investment readiness, and empower individuals with valuable financial knowledge.

Furthermore, Safaricom has organized the Safaricom Engineering Community Campus Tour, which will take place at Maseno University on September 28th, 2023.

This tour aims to nurture exceptional technological talent within Kenyan universities by fostering a culture of engineering excellence through immersive technical experiences.

It will also serve as a platform to showcase the transformative potential of Technology, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and online platforms in the pursuit of successful careers in the tech industry.

These community engagements will build up to the Safaricom Chapa Dimba regional final matches, which will be hosted at Moi Stadium.

The regional finals will feature eight teams, comprising four boys' teams and four girls' teams, representing the six counties of Kisumu, Siaya, Migori, Homa Bay, Nyamira, and Kisii.

These teams will compete fiercely for the coveted Regional Championship title, following the Inter-County playoffs scheduled for the weekend of September 23rd and 24th.

Safaricom Chapa Dimba not only seeks to promote grassroots football but also provides a structured platform for scouts and coaches to discover emerging talent and establish feeder systems for Kenyan football leagues nationwide.

As part of this endeavour, Safaricom is committed to training a total of 250 coaches.

The football tournament is open to young people aged between 16 and 20 years old, emphasizing the company's dedication to youth empowerment through sports.

As the Nyanza regional finals of Chapa Dimba approach, Safaricom's community initiatives are poised to leave a lasting positive impact on the lives of the local population while nurturing the football stars of tomorrow.
