Safaricom formally unveiled the Western regional finals of the Chapa Dimba football competition with a number of community drives seeking to transform lives of residents.

Safaricom will hold a free medical camp, digital and financial literacy seminars, Safaricom Engineering Community Campus Tours, as well as various clinics for players and coaches.

The community engagements are expected to conclude in the Western regional finals matches, which have been scheduled for the weekend of August 26 and 27, 2023.

“Safaricom Foundation places a significant emphasis on healthcare, with a primary objective to enhance the health and well-being of vulnerable Kenyans,” said Safaricom CEO Peter Ndegwa.

He added, “In conjunction with Zuri Health, we will facilitate complimentary medical check-ups to benefit the people of Kakamega and the wider Western region.

Safaricom says it has partnered with Britam to offer free digital and financial literacy training suited for boda boda riders, vendors, small business operators and shopkeepers.

The campus tour at Masinde Muliro University on August 24 will tackle the impact of tech, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and using online platforms to build a career and earn a good living.


The drives will lead up to the Safaricom Chapa Dimba regional final matches at Bukhungu Stadium with eight teams from Busia, Bungoma, Kakamega and Vihiga counties facing off.

The boys and girls teams include The Manace and Lugari Progress from Kakamega, John Osogo and Chakol Queens from Busia, Compel Sportiff and Brenda Girls from Bungoma, and Ebwali Boys and Madira Soccer Assassins from Vihiga.

The popular Safaricom Chapa Dimba football tourney targets young people aged between 16 and 20 and aims to enable the participating players to launch a career in the sport.
