Adrian Mwangi of Vetlab Golf Club was crowned the overall winner of the opening leg of the KCB East Africa Golf Tour at the plush Par-72 Vetlab golf course.

Mwangi, playing off handicap 33, carded a superb 39 stableford points to beat his nearest challenger Emmanuel Nyakaberia, who was playing off Handicap 27 and carded 36 points.

Nyakaberia was declared the overall men’s winner after beating Eric Njunu, who scored 35 points, while Daniel Karuga, Handicap 19, became a distant third after he carded 34 points.

“I am happy with my win here today. KCB have done an incredible job kickstarting the tour here at Vetlab. As a member, we could not let this win slip through our fingers. I can say my swing was there and the fine weather also contributed to my success,” said Mwangi on his win.

The tournament commenced with a ladies’ golf clinic on Friday afternoon before the main tournament that was held on Saturday, and was followed by a Juniors clinic on Sunday.

In the ladies category, Caroline Mokeira, playing off handicap 45, carded 37 points to beat Grace Katumbi (handicap 39) on countback, while Alice Adere was third with 35 points.

Veteran lady golfer Scola Onsongo (handicap 34) went home with the staff winner award after carding 37 points while her colleague Allan Kirui (handicap 26) was second with 34 points.


The tournament will be heading to the Eldoret Golf Club for its second leg next weekend before the golfers converge at the Limuru Golf Club for the third leg in two-weeks’ time.
