The Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with three Japanese organizations in a move meant to develop the rugby sport in Kenya.

The memorandum with Hiraku Company Ltd, Seitoku Company Ltd and AAIC Partners Africa Ltd was signed at the Kenya Rugby Union offices on Sunday and will last for one year.

According to the rugby union, the MoU will see all parties involved contribute to the development of the sport through various support and activities in Kenya and in Japan.

Among the programmes the three Japanese organization will support include sponsoring the Kenya Cup, National teams, Prescott Cup and others; training primary and secondary schools as well as scouting for talent and providing opportunities for some to study in Japan.

This comes as the union announced that match day one of the new Kenya Cup season is scheduled to kick off on Saturday November 26, 2022 with a total of six matches lined up.

The defending champions, Kabras Sugar, have commenced their campaign with a tight clash at home with Catholic Monks slated for the Kakamega Showground in Kakamega Town.
