Eliud Kipchoge, Kenya’s Marathon Record Holder, was on Sunday evening awarded the best male athlete of Tokyo 2020 Olympics at the Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC) Awards Gala.
The gala was held at the sidelines of the Annual General Assembly in Crete, Greece and Kipchoge was awarded for his marathon gold medal at the postponed Summer Games held in Tokyo, Japan between July and August 2021.
The 36-year-old Greatest Of All Time (G.O.A.T) defended his marathon gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics 2020 after bagging the coveted marathon race at the Rio 2016 Olympics.

“When you win two Olympic gold medals back-to-back, its making history because only three people have done it, I am happy to have done that in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics," Kipchoge said while receiving the award.
He received the was award from the president of the Association of National Olympics Committee of Africa, Mustapha Berraf, at the Open Air Theatre of the Creta Maris Beach Hotel.

The coveted awards were organized by the ANOC to commemorate the achievements of the crème-de-la-crème of athletes who took part in the Tokyo Olympic Games.
The other athletes who were awarded are;
Best Female Athlete of Tokyo 2020 –Maggie Mac Neil (Canada)
Outstanding Athlete Performance – Mijain Lopez (Cuba)
Best Male Team at Tokyo 2020 – Japan National Baseball Team
Best Feale Team at Tokyo 2020 – New Zealand Rugby Team
Best Male Multiple Athlete Event of Tokyo 2020 – Italy Cycling Track Pursuit Team
Best Female Multiple Athlete Event of Tokyo 2020 – Estonia Fencing Epee Team
