Anthony Muigai walked away as the Overall Winner of the IPF Golf Tournament at Ruiru Sports Club on Saturday, his round of 42 points setting him apart from a field that drew more than 200 participants.
The handicap-21 golfer edged out some of the region’s strongest amateurs, including competitors from Nairobi and neighbouring counties.
In the men’s contest, Gabriel Wabuti also finished on 42 points to secure victory, while Terra Saidimu settled for second place with 38 points.
Speaking after collecting his prize, Muigai described how he maintained focus from the first tee to the last putt.
“It feels incredible to come out on top in such a competitive field. I had to stay focused all through, and I am proud that my consistency paid off today,” he said.

The ladies’ leaderboard was just as closely fought.
Judy Nyambura, playing off handicap 20, posted 41 points to take home the winner’s trophy.
Only a single point behind came Veronica Mwaura (H25), who secured the runners-up position with 40 points.
Prizes extended across a wide range of categories. Mary Wanjiku (H19) returned the best gross score of 38, while junior golfer Mumbi Gatu (H17) topped her division with 36 points.
Among invited guests, Navin Shah (H19) claimed the men’s award on 38 points and Milkah Ikote (H25) took the ladies’ honours with 37 points.
In the nine-hole events, three players tied with 21 points in their respective brackets.
P.M. Mwangi (H19) won the 1st Nine Men’s prize, Michael Waititu (H19) the 2nd Nine Men’s, and Shobna Patel (H29) the 1st Nine Ladies’. Liz Mwaura (H29) added her name to the winners’ list by securing the 2nd Nine Ladies’ section, also on 21 points.
Wanjiku capped her day with a second trophy after taking the 9-Hole Ladies’ competition with 28 points.
Division Two honours went to Michael Gachanja (H36), whose 40 points placed him firmly at the top.
Fun challenges tested power and precision, with Duncan Kung’u winning the men’s Longest Drive, Janet Mwangi taking the ladies’ equivalent, and sharp approach shots by Stephen Moche and Grace Miano securing Nearest to Pin awards.
The tournament began with a 6:30 am tee-off for the morning draw and continued at 12:30 pm with the afternoon field.
A lively award ceremony brought proceedings to a close, where Ruiru Sports Club Captain Justus Mathenge commended both players and organisers.
“This tournament continues to grow in stature each year. The impressive turnout and competitive spirit on display today show just how much Ruiru has become a home of golf excellence,” Mathenge said.
By nightfall, the event had celebrated not only golfing skill but also the social spirit that has made Ruiru a popular stage for Kenya’s golfing calendar.
