Tsevi Soni has claimed his second straight NCBA Kenya Junior Matchplay Championship, wrapping up a 4&2 victory over Belinda Wanjiru in a 36-hole final that tested patience, accuracy, and endurance at Sigona Golf Club.

Soni, who began the morning session with measured play, kept his opponent under pressure without taking unnecessary risks.

By the halfway stage, he had nudged ahead by a single hole, but the real separation came after lunch as his putting and ball control tightened.

He finally closed out the match on the 34th hole to secure the title for a second consecutive year.

Looking back on the day, Soni acknowledged both the challenge and the support around him. Before addressing the crowd, he shared his thoughts on the match.

“This win means a lot to me,” he said. “Belinda pushed me all the way, and it took my very best golf to come out on top. I’m proud to defend my title here at Sigona. My great appreciation to my family, friends, Sigona, JGF, and NCBA Bank for their support.”

Although Wanjiru delivered moments of brilliance, particularly with several well-timed recoveries, Soni’s consistency from tee to green kept him in front and allowed him to pull away in the closing holes.

Earlier in the day, the contest for third place saw Kevin Anyien of Windsor Golf Club produce six birdies to outlast Vet Lab Sports Club’s Mikael Kihara, sealing a 3Up win on the 16th hole.

At the awards ceremony, Junior Golf Foundation president Vincent Mukiri reflected on the standard of competition and the importance of the event in shaping young players.

"I am excited by the level of the sport displayed by the juniors today, looking at the scores, the juniors have technically played scratch golf, which is key to development pathways toward professional golf and college opportunities," Mukiru stated.

"We appreciate NCBA Bank’s role in nurturing sporting talent and thank Sigona Golf Club for hosting the juniors over the past four days."

Now firmly established as a fixture in the junior golf calendar, the NCBA Kenya Junior Matchplay continues to give young golfers a platform to earn ranking points, sharpen their competitive edge, and prepare for larger stages, backed by NCBA’s sponsorship and the JGF’s grassroots development mission.
