Most junior golfers taking part in the fifth leg of the NCBA JGF US Kids Spring Tour missed their tournament targets as they tried to overcome the Sigona Golf Club course in Limuru.

The wet weather and hilly course punished the young golfers on Sunday with Kagame Handa and Siqian Yu topping the boys’ 13-14 and girls’ 11-12 years categories respectively.

Handa and Yu weathered the storm at the lush but challenging course to both card an impressive one over par 73 to triumph in their respective age categories.

Handa picked two birdies and one bogey at the tricky hole five in the front nine, but wrestled with a tougher play in the back nine to pick two bogeys at holes 12 and 14.

Peter Gathogo finished in second position with a score of four over par 76, followed by Tsorav Soni in the third place with three strokes behind Soni.

In the NCBA JGF US Kids Spring Tour season classification, Amar Shah, who finished fourth jointly with Kahir Ladak with a score of 81, is leading the pack with a total of 111 points.

Gathogo managed to reduce the gap to finish second overall with 83 points, with Handa following in third place with 74.5 points increasing his chances of catching up with Gathogo.

Yu bagged three birdies and four bogeys to card one over par 73 to finish four strokes ahead of Ashley Gachora in second place before the latter dropped in the end to five over par 77.

“In the first few holes, I was too cold to be able to like putt well, so I messed up a birdie putt and I also messed up a par putt. The greens are way faster and there are a lot of trees and obstacles, and a lot of bunkers all around the course. So, it is a very difficult course,” Gachora elucidated.

Chloe Chiuri leads the girls’ group with 109 points, 29 points ahead of Yu, despite the fact that she finished in 5th place to collect just 10 points at the tough Sigona Golf Club course.

Amani Muriithi won at Sigona to clock 30 points in the girls 13-14 years category, followed by Esther Paul with 20 points, as Randy Turi, Bianca Dave and Lael Mwangale closed the top five.

Muriithi now takes over the overall lead with 97.5 points, pushing Turi to second place with 83.5 points after managing to finish with only 15 points at the unforgiving Sigona course.

Armelle Amani, who collected 8 points at Sigona is now in third position after carding 77 points, only 7 points ahead of Esther Paul with 70 points.
