Harambee Stars defender Joseph Okumu has joined top Belgian club KAA Gent for a four-year contract.

The defender signed the deal which is estimated at Sh. 400 million on Sunday, June 20.

He joins KAA Gent from IF Elfsborg club in Sweden, which he joined in 2019. 

The 24-year-old tough defender, who plays as a centre-back, showed off an impressive job in the last season attracting interests from several Scotland and France clubs.

He was a top defender in Elfsborg FC in the last season that saw the club finish as runners up in the top tier Allsvenskan league.

Elfsborg FC’s ground in Boras Arena where they have played since 2005.

The Star speaking at a recent interview disclosed that looking forward to working in another country after a great performance in the Swedish football.

"Yes, definitely will take the next step. The most important thing is that I have already made an impression here."

“When I have done that, both I and the club are satisfied. I think we have the same interests here, so I will take the next step,” Okumu told journalists.

In Kenya, Okumu played for Chemelil Sugar club before moving to Free State Stars in South Africa and later joined AFC Ann Arbor in USA.

He later signed for USL championship Real Monarchs in 2018 before landing a deal with Elfsborg FC.
