57 people arrested in the weekend for flouting Covid-19 regulations were on Monday released on Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS) to execute community service as punishment.

The 57, mainly students from various universities in the city, were arrested at a club on Marsabit Plaza on Ngong Road and had been detained at Kilimani Police Station.

They were presented before Kibera Law Courts on Monday, before the magistrate issued an order releasing them to NMS for community service.

NMS, through the Directorate of Enforcement, is expected to oversee their services at various facilities and streets in Nairobi County.

They have been ordered to report at 8:00am- 5:00pm daily the whole week for their services, which include cleaning up Uhuru Park, Marikiti and Muthurua Markets, Globe Cinema roundabout, Nairobi River.

Those who fail to report to their assigned duty stations will be rearrested by police and arraigned and they will receive stiffer penalties from the courts.
