Two construction workers have died and two others seriously injured in an accident at a construction site commissioned by Acorn Holdings Limited along USIU road in Nairobi.

According to a statement by Acorn, the two employees who were injured during the incident have been hospitalized in Nairobi following the Monday morning incident.

“It has come to our attention of an unfortunate accident at one of our construction sites along USIU Road which is under the possession and control of one of our independent contractors,” Acorn said in a statement.

It added, “Unfortunately, the accident resulted in two fatalities and hospitalization of two

persons. The Police and Directorate of Occupational Health & Safety were immediately informed.”

Accorn has indicated that it is working with the relevant authorities as well as conducting an “exhaustive and independent” enquiry to establish what transpired resulting in the tragedy.

“We take Health and Safety very seriously and require our contractors to follow very stringent guidelines,” the company added.

Acorn, the company behind Qwetu student hostels, has now ordered the contractor to close the construction site to allow for a thorough investigation into the incident.

“We are deeply saddened by this incident and our deepest condolences to the families that lost their loved ones. We are working with authorities to reach out to the families to offer our sympathies and support.”
