President William Ruto has ordered the Ministry of Education to postpone the reopening of schools for the second term indefinitely due to flooding caused by the ongoing heavy rains.

Ruto requested MPs to reallocate funds under the National Government Constituency Development Funds (NG-CDF) to prioritise rebuilding of schools destroyed by the floods.

In a live address to the nation, he urged counties, development partners and the private sector to help Kenya deal with emergencies occasioned by the floods ravaging the country.

The Head of State assured Kenyans that the national government was taking all necessary measures to alleviate the effects of flooding as MET warns of more rains in the coming days.

This comes days after Education CS Ezekiel Machogu announcement the postponement of the reopening dates for the second term from this week Monday to next week, in a move announced at 1am on Monday.
