Bungoma Woman Representative Catherine Wambilianga and six others were seriously wounded in a crash that occurred as they were concluding campaigns for the Kabuchai parliamentary by-elections.

A car that was part of their entourage reportedly lost control and rammed them as they welcomed Ford Kenya party leader Moses Wetangula at the party aspirant Majimbo Kalasinga’s home in Sikusi village.

Wambilianga said the driver of the said vehicle engaged the acceleration gear accidentally instead of the reverse gear causing the accident, leaving the MP nursing a broken limb and two fractures on her leg.

However, the lawmaker was already operated on at the Life Care Hospital in Bungoma town and is recovering from the injuries and is expected to be discharged from hospital on Wednesday.

The Woman Rep said she was recuperating well, and still took the opportunity to appeal to voters in

Kabuchai Constituency to turn out en masse and elect Kalasinga in the Thursday by-election.

The Kabuchai parliamentary seat fell vacant following the death of James Lusweti, who died after a long illness.
