The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) board has re-deployed Lilian Nyawanda to the position of Commissioner Customs & Border Control (C&BC) effective Thursday.

She takes over from Pamela Ahago, who has been serving as Commissioner C&BC in an acting capacity.

"The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) board has re-deployed Ms Lilian Nyawanda to the position of Commissioner Customs & Border Control (C&BC) to take over the implementation of initiatives that will drive Customs revenue," KRA said in a statement.

Nyawanda has over 20 years of experience in customs administration, policy and legislation.

She previously served as Commissioner C&BC for over two years at KRA, before her secondment to the National Treasury and Economic Planning.

In her new role, Nyawanda will be responsible for overseeing the department's core business of trade facilitation, border control and revenue mobilisation.

She will also work closely with other stakeholders to implement initiatives that will drive customs revenue and support the Government's development agenda.

KRA's Commissioner General Humphrey Wattanga welcomed Nyawanda back to the Authority and expressed confidence in her ability to lead the C&BC department.

"Ms. Nyawanda has a proven track record in customs administration and I am confident that she will lead the C&BC department to achieve its goals," KRA statement read.

"The role of Commissioner C&BC is a key pillar in delivering KRA's vision and steering revenue to support the Government's development agenda."

Nyawanda's academic qualifications further underscore her expertise.

She holds a Master of Business Administration in Strategic Management from the United States International University and a Bachelor of Commerce in Finance from the University of Nairobi.

Additionally, she possesses a Certificate in Customs and Tax Administration from the Kenya School of Revenue Administration (KESRA).

Currently, Nyawanda is pursuing a Doctorate in Public Policy & Administration from Walden University, and she is a distinguished member of the National Society of Leadership and Success (Sigma Alpha Pi Honor–September 2020).

Her return to the helm of Kenya's Customs and Border Control department is expected to usher in a new era of strategic leadership, drawing upon her extensive experience, education, and dedication to contribute to the growth and success of the nation's revenue collection and border control efforts.
