President William Ruto, in the midst of his regional tour, is set to inaugurate the commencement of the Mabera Affordable Housing Project on Sunday.

This development aims to address housing shortages and stimulate economic growth in the Kuria West constituency.

Under the banner of the Constituency Affordable Housing Program, the initiative will involve the construction of 200 housing units on a government-provided parcel of land spanning 2.5 acres.

The housing endeavour, scheduled to unfold in two phases, will be executed over a 12-month period, with an anticipated completion date set for October 2024.

The ambitious project encompasses a diverse range of housing options, catering to the varying needs of residents. It comprises 40 one-bedroom units, 100 two-bedroom units, and 60 three-bedroom units.

One of the highlights of the Mabera Affordable Housing Project is its potential to create employment opportunities.

Approximately 100 direct jobs and 600 indirect job opportunities will emerge, primarily benefiting the youth and women of the region.

The development is in partnership with Top Choice Surveillance Ltd, serving as the project developer.

In an effort to support local artisans and businesses, the developer has announced plans to engage Jua Kali artisans for the supply of over 400 doors and windows, with an estimated value exceeding Sh5 million.

Commenting on the significance of the affordable housing program, Housing PS Charles Hinga emphasized that it not only provides decent and affordable housing to Kenyans in informal settlements but also serves as a catalyst for employment generation.

With the government's advanced plans to construct at least 250,000 housing units annually, Kuria West joins a growing list of constituencies actively engaged in affordable housing projects, including Bahati, Vihiga, and Gichugu.
