Humphrey Wattanga Mulongo has been appointed the new Commissioner General of the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA).

National Treasury CS Njuguna Ndung'u announced the appointment through a gazette notice dated August 22, 2023 with Mulongo set to serve for three years from Tuesday.

“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 11 (1) of the Kenya Revenue Authority Act, 1995, the Cabinet Secretary for the National Treasury and Economic Planning appoints— Humphrey Wattanga Mulongo to be the Commissioner General of Kenya Revenue Authority, for a period of three (3) years, with effect from the 22nd August, 2023,” read the gazette notice.

Mulongo takes to KRA a wealth of experience in financial administration.

He has been a Commission for Revenue Allocation (CRA) member for the past six years after being appointed on December 31, 2016 on former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s recommendation.

He replaces Uhuru’s appointee Githii Mburu who resigned in February 2023 marking the end of his three years and seven-month tenure as the authority's Commissioner General.

Rispah Simiyu took up the position in acting capacity following Mburu’s resignation and her tenure was characterized by extensive restructuring efforts affecting various departments.

Mulongo's appointment ushers in a new era of leadership at the Times Tower, with expectations high on him to guide KRA strategically to meets its ambitious tax collection targets.
