Kenya has pledged Sh28.7 million to bolster aviation security and sustainability efforts within the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
Transport Principal Secretary Mohamed Daghar announced this commitment during the 8th Africa and Indian Ocean Aviation Week in Nairobi.
The funds will support ICAO's initiatives aimed at fortifying aviation security across Africa.
"My Ministry through the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) has been directed to ensure this is achieved starting the next financial year,2024,” Daghar stated.
Kenya, as an ICAO member state, is dedicated to creating a secure, efficient, and environmentally sustainable global air transport system.

Daghar emphasized Kenya's adherence to ICAO standards through robust national legislation.
Daghar also highlighted Kenya's collaboration with ICAO to restore international connectivity in accordance with contactless travel norms.
He revealed Kenya's successful implementation of ICAO's public-key directory, promoting seamless passenger journeys through initiatives like Advanced Passenger Information (API) and Passenger Name Record (PNR) systems.
The Transport PS applauded ICAO's commitment to achieving net-zero carbon emissions from international aviation by 2050.
Kenya is actively adopting ICAO-approved sustainability criteria for Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) to align with these ambitious goals.
Kenya's multifaceted collaboration with ICAO includes seconding technical experts, providing training, contributing financially, and maintaining a permanent representation at ICAO headquarters.
The government is also exploring the establishment of a state-of-the-art facility for the ICAO Eastern and Southern Africa regional office.
ICAO President Salvatore Sciacchitano, ICAO Secretary-General Juan Carlos Salazar, and other key figures attended the event.
Daghar reaffirmed Kenya's dedication to supporting ICAO's objectives and fulfilling its responsibilities as an ICAO contracting state.
