President William Ruto has told all those involved in Uasin Gishu County’s Sh1.1 billion Finland Education Program fiasco that they will be held individually liable for their actions.

Addressing residents en route to the 10th Devolution Conference in Eldoret, Ruto warned the county leaders involved in swindling potential students of their monies of prosecution.

“Investigations are underway. All those who squandered the money, they should be prepared to refund it or they will be in trouble. We are not going to beg anybody!” said Ruto.

The president added, “Some people sold their land and cattle; they must get back their money. After the investigation is concluded, we shall see how we can help all the young people affected by this matter.”

The Head of State intimated that he will allow the ongoing investigations by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) before offering scholarships locally to the affected students.

“When the investigations are concluded, I will see how we can help all the affected young people.”

“This does not mean those who stole the cash will escape. They cannot! They are embarrassing us; they are useless fellows!”

This comes after Nakuru Senior Principal Magistrate Peter Ndege ordered the arrest of Uasin Gishu Senator Jackson Mandago and three other county officers over the fiasco.

Also to be arrested, are former Youth and Sports Chief Officer Joseph Maritim, County Education Revolving Fund Deputy Director and Trustee Meshack Rono, and Joshua Lelei.

The arrest warrants were issued after an application by Officer of the Director of Public Prosecution days after a heated session between affected parents and top county officials.
