Former commissioner of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Dr Roselyne Akombe is back in Kenya after she left the country three years ago fearing for her life.
Dr Akombe returned to the country on Tuesday after she relocated following the contested 2017 General Election to work as the Chief of Policy at the Policy and Mediation Division, Department of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs at the United Nations in New York.
The former IEBC commissioner resigned and left the country in a huff amid controversy and allegations of threats to her life and that of her family members as the politics between ruling Jubilee Party and challenger ODM resulted in demos and widespread violence.
Through her twitter handle, Dr Akombe intimated, "Nothing beats the feeling of being home #Kenya, where my umbilical cord remains. Thanks a million to all who made it possible. I owe you a lot!"

While in the US, Dr Akombe used to criticise the happenings in the country, especially President Kenyatta's administration and the operations at the IEBC that she once worked for.
On January 4, she announced that she was moving from the UN Headquarters to work at the UNDP regional office in Ethiopia and her return to Kenya was possibly as a stopover en route to Addis Ababa.
"Thrilled to join @UNDP today as the Governance & Peacebuilding Africa Coordinator at the Regional Hub in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia," she posted at the time.
