Kisii County Deputy Governor Joash Maangi has been arrested.

Maangi was apprehended by police officers on Monday morning at Kisii High School shortly before a funeral service for the late politician Simeon Nyachae commenced in Kisii.

Police have not yet revealed the reason behind the arrest even as he was taken to Kisii Central Police Station for questioning by officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

He was arrested while reportedly receiving leaders allied to Deputy President William Ruto and his Tanga Tanga wing of ruling Jubilee Party.

South Mugirango MP Sylvanus Osoro was also arrested while trying to gain entry into the Gusii stadium venue of the Nyachae funeral service.
