Former Cabinet Minister and Garissa Senator Mohamed Yusuf Haji is dead. 

Haji died at Aga Khan hospital in Nairobi at the age of  80 after a long illness, his family says.

Yusuf Haji is the father of Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji.

President Uhuru Kenyatta has eulogised the veteran politician, who until his death was the chairperson of the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) Taskforce, as a dependable Kenyan leader and patriot.

Other politicians have also shared their messages of condolence on social media including ODM leader Raila Odinga and Kakamega governor Wycliffe Oparanya.
