President William Ruto has nominated Mary Wanyonyi Chebukati as the new Chairperson of the Commission for Revenue Allocation (CRA) for an expected tenure of six years.

Mary, the wife of former electoral body IEBC Chairperson Wafula Chebukati Wanyonyi, was picked among three names shortlisted following the retirement of Dr Jane Kiringai, who had served the full six-year term.

In a statement by State House Spokesperson Hussein Mohamed on Tuesday, President Ruto said her nomination followed a recommendation of the Public Service Commission (PSC).

“The nomination was preceded by a competitive recruitment process undertaken by the Public Service Commission (PSC),” said the Head of State in the statement.

Mary is a certified accountant and mediator and was among 477 persons who were shortlisted to be interviewed for the positions of Principal Secretary but was unsucccessful.

She is currently the Senior Deputy Accountant General and Head of Accounting Unit at the Ministry of Lands, Public Works, Housing and Urban Development and holds a Master’s degree in Business Administration and Bachelor of Commerce with a bias in Accounting.

She is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA-K), a member of ICPAK and ICIFA and has been a member of the boards of the Cooperative University College, Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) and Maasai Mara University.

At the same time, President Ruto has also nominated Dr Phyllis Wambui Wagacha for appointment as member of the Salaries and Remunerations Commission to represent PSC.

Dr Wacgacha holds a doctoral degree in Information Sciences from Moi University. She previously serves at the Kenya Institute for Public Policy Research and Analysis (KIPPRA).
