Irate youth on Tuesday afternoon set ablaze a goods trailer on the Southern Bypass in Langata, Nairobi after anti-riot police officers retreated leaving the driver at their mercy.
The truck that was destined for neighbouring Uganda was attacked and torched close to Migingo slums with the police officers, who were at the scene, captured cassually walking away from the scene without making any efforts to salvage the situation or extinguish the fire.
According to the driver, who identified himself as Jibril, he was heading to Kampala from Mombasa when he was accosted by the unknown goons who beat him up before setting the trailer on fire.
“Nilikuwa naenda Kampala nimetoka Mombasa alafu ndio hii inakanipata hapa hivi. Nilikuwa na hapa ndio wale wakaanza kurusha mawe, maaskari wakaanza kuretreat. Sasa watu wote wamenza kugeuka sasa kurudi ndio wakanipata kwa gari, wakanitoa ndani ya gari, mimi nikakimbia,” said Jibril.

The incident comes a few hours after close to 10 goons set ablaze a commuter bus along Ngong Road in Nairobi as Raila Odinga’s Azimio demonstrations resumes on Tuesday.
It also comes amid questions by many social media users and opposition political bigwigs over the two torching incidents, which they insists are orchestrated by government allies.
Inspector General of Police Japhet Koome has remained silent on the two occurrences as ruling Kenya Kwanza leaders and bloggers shared the videos fingering Raila over the chaos.
