Former President Uhuru Kenyatta has blasted police accusing them of being part of efforts by a splinter group to take over the Jubilee Party headquarters in Nairobi on Wednesday.

Uhuru accused the police of using force to assist the breakaway faction led by rebel Jubilee Party MPs Kanini Kega and Sabina Chege to take over the former ruling party that he leads.

“You are throwing teargas at them so you can take the house by force. That is not right,” said Uhuru.

During the visit that caught many by surprise, the former Head of State called for unity in the party while asking the rebel members to quit instead of rocking the party from within.

“Those who don’t want to stay in Jubilee Party should leave in peace. We don’t have a fight with anyone, were just defending our party. The police have other duties to execute, not coming to steal our party,” he said.

He condemned police for lobbing teargas into the party headquarters to quell the standoff between supporters of Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni and those of Kega-Sabina wing.
