Two police officers on Thursday found themselves in trouble with the public after allegedly knocking down a pedestrian while driving on the wrong side of the road in Nairobi County.

The officers, who were in an official Mercedes Benz vehicle plate GK A398P, were filmed by a passerby during the commotion that followed the accident on Kipande Road in Ngara.

The angry mob milling at the scene got even more agitated when the cops, one in blue uniform and the other in plain clothes, tried to drive away abandoning the injured man.

The mob, that included mechanics who operate along Kipande Road near Globe Cinema roundabout, demanded that the officers carry the man and take him to the hospital.

There was a brief moment of confusion on whether the police car with a smashed windscreen should be allowed to leave the scene in violation of traffic regulations to rush the pedestrian to the hospital.

Eventually they assisted the two policemen to carry the man into the official government car to seek medical treatment but it remains unclear which facility they took him to.

It also remains unclear where the duo was rushing to on the wrong side of the road given the traffic on the usually busy road was not heavy at the time of the crash early afternoon.

The Kenya National Police Service headed by Inspector General of Police Japhet Koome is yet to issue an official statement on the incident involving its officers who are assumed to have been on duty.
