Public Service Vehicles (PSVs) may soon be allowed back on the Nairobi expressway after a 10-month ban following an accident.
On Wednesday, Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen informed Members of Parliament that the ministry was examining the ban with a view to lifting it.
The Transport CS confirmed the request was on his desk pending review.
“They were denied an opportunity because of the accident, but now we are reviewing that ban. The request is at my desk and we are looking at it,” Mr Murkomen said.
In July last year, former Transport and Infrastructure Cabinet Secretary James Macharia prohibited PSVs carrying more than seven passengers from using the road.

The government instituted these measures in response to a road accident involving a 32-seater matatu belonging to the Embassava Sacco that was travelling at a high speed and ploughed into stationary vehicles that were waiting to be cleared at the toll station.
At least twenty people sustained injuries in the accident.
A fortnight before the Embassava incident, one person lost their life when another vehicle rammed into stationary vehicles at the same toll station.
