The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) Council has suspended President Nelson Havi as the internal turmoil threatens to sink the lawyers’ national body.
The LSK Council directed that Havi remains out of office until March 27, when he will be given a chance to defend himself at the Annual General Meeting ahead of vote to decide his fortune.
However, the society President has defiantly dismissed the action by the Council members, saying they do not have the powers to suspend him and only a General Meeting can do so.
“The 8 suspended Council Members do not have power to suspend President Nelson Havi. That is a preserve of Members in a General Meeting. The ‘suspension’ is a nullity ab initio intended to conceal theft of Society’s money. I continue to serve till end of term on 24.3.2022,” he tweeted.

The High Court last week suspended implementation of all resolutions made during a heated Special General Meeting (SGM) Havi chaired last month amid a plot to oust him from office.
The court suspended all the decisions he spearheaded during the SGM held on January 18 until a petition filed by lawyer Kamotho Njenga is heard and determined.
Chaos rocked the SGM convened by LSK last month after the society president blocked some members from voting virtually in the heated session that almost degenerated into fisticuffs.
